VfL Wolfsburg Women have bolstered their defensive options by signing Denmark international Sofie Svava from Swedish record champions FC Rosengard from 1 January 2021. The 20-year-old, who can operate both at left-back and on the left side of midfield, has agreed a contract until 2024 and will wear the number 19 shirt for VfL after the winter break.
Two league titles in one year
Svava made 35 appearances in the Damallsvenskan, the Swedish top flight, scoring five goals and registering a further seven assists. She helped Rosengard win the title in 2019 just a few weeks after joining the club from Bröndby IF, where she had also lifted the Danish championship. In 2018 she won the Danish cup and featured six times in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Svava made her senior international debut for Denmark in January 2019 and has earned a total of 14 caps to date.
“I can hardly wait to become a part of the team”
“I chose VfL Wolfsburg because I’m convinced that the mentality and playing style will suit me down to the ground,” Svava said. “VfL have one of the best teams in the world and I can hardly wait to become a part of it, to continue developing and to win. I want to become the best player in my position and I’m certain VfL can help me achieve that.”
“One of the brightest talents in European women’s football”
Ralf Kellermann, VfL Women sporting director, said: “We’re very pleased to have signed one of the brightest talents in European women’s football on a long-term deal. We will carefully nurture Sofie in Wolfsburg so that she can develop both her footballing and personal skills. She has good international experience for her age thanks to her appearances with the national team and in the Champions League. That, coupled with her open and self-confident manner, will make her an asset for the team.”
