VfL to face Shakhtar Donetsk
The draw for the UEFA Europa League round of 16 took place on Friday.

The Wolves will play Shakhtar Donetsk in the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League. Oliver Glasner’s side host the 12-time Ukrainian champions in the first leg on 12 March, before travelling to the east Ukrainian city of Kharkiv for the return leg at the Metalist Stadium on 19 March.
Benfica conquerors
Shakhtar proved their European credentials in the round of 32, beating Portuguese giants Benfica 5-4 on aggregate. Luis Castro’s side narrowly missed out on a place in the UEFA Champions League knockout stages earlier this season, finishing third in their group behind Manchester City and Atalanta.
Reaction to the draw
Head coach Oliver Glasner: “Shakhtar Donetsk are a big name in European football. They’re regulars in the Champions League and a very strong opponent, with a lot of South American players in their ranks. We’ll need another solid team performance in the last 16 of the Europa League.”
Robin Knoche: “It’s an interesting tie. Their 3-3 draw in Lisbon [in the round of 32 second leg] was no fluke. We’re looking forward to the challenge. It’s a manageable tie and we believe in our strengths. We want to put ourselves in a good position in the home leg – as we did against Malmö.”
