After eight games without a win in all competitions, a new era begins for the Wolves on Saturday 30 October when they travel to Bayer 04 Leverkusen (kick-off 15:30 CEST). Newly appointed head coach Florian Kohfeldt is hoping to guide his team back to winning ways at the BayArena ahead of a busy week for the Green-and-Whites.

Facts and figures

  • A high-scoring fixture: There have been plenty of goals in games between the two sides in recent years. The average number of goals scored in matches at the BayArena is 3.63 – marginally higher than the overall average (3.38). There has never been a goalless draw between the two teams in Leverkusen.

  • Impressive recent record: The Green-and-Whites are unbeaten in their last five away games against Bayer. They triumphed 1-0 on their last visit on Matchday 18 last season thanks to Ridle Baku’s 35th-minute effort. In May 2020, a Marin Pongracic brace and further goals from Renato Steffen and Maximilian Arnold helped secure a 4-1 victory.

  • Goal threat: Leverkusen are the most clinical team in the league in front of goal, needing an average of just 5.2 shots to score. Only Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund have scored more league goals than Bayer (23) this term.

  • Denied by the woodwork: The Wolves have hit the post or bar on six occasions so far this season. Lukas Nmecha was denied by the crossbar during the 2-0 defeat to Freiburg last time out.

  • Quick out of the blocks: Leverkusen have scored eight goals in the opening 15 minutes of games this season – more than any other team in the league. However, only Augsburg have conceded more goals before the break (10) than the ‘Werkself’ (9).
