Caroline Hansen scored the only goal of the game in Vila Real de Santo António, where the VfL Ladies recorded the second victory of their Portuguese winter training camp. The match was an evenly balanced affair early on, and although the She-Wolves had more possession, they initially found no way through a well-organised Frankfurt defence. That all changed around the half-hour mark, when Hansen met Alexandra Popp's right-wing cross to break the deadlock.
The VfL Ladies continued to dominate after the break, while Frankfurt looked to pounce on any counter-attacking opportunities. Even so, it was VfL who created the better chances in a game in which their lead was never seriously threatened – Pernille Harder went closest to adding to the scoreline only to fire over from Ewa Pajor's pass.
"A very valuable test"
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: "The teams cancelled each other out at the start of the match and were both very disciplined, especially in defence, which is why there weren’t many chances. Our build-up play and final ball weren't accurate enough, but that's par for the course after such an intensive training camp. We gradually managed to implement our game on the counter and got our goal. The fact we dominated possession was a positive, and we hardly allowed Frankfurt to create any chances. We were very compact at the back. On the whole, it was a very valuable test for us against strong opponents."
