The VfL Wolfsburg Ladies are the so-called 'Autumn Champions' in the Allianz Frauen Bundesliga, an unofficial title given to the side top of the table halfway through the season. Head coach Stephan Lerch's side raced to a 3-0 half-time lead away to Sand on Sunday afternoon, before adding gloss to the scoreline after the break. Kristine Minde (19', 22'), Alexandra Popp (54', 64') and Zsanett Jakabfi (79', 82') all scored twice, while Pernille Harder (31'), Ewa Pajor (70') and Caroline Hansen (86') were also on target in front of approximately 1,000 fans, who witnessed a particularly one-sided encounter in the second half. The Green-Whites' ninth win in as many league games this term not only continued the team's superb start to the campaign, it also maintained the seven-point lead over Bayern Munich in second place. The 2017/18 double winners are next in action on Sunday 2 December against TSG Hoffenheim at the AOK Stadion (kick-off 15:00 CET).
"We built up a head of steam "
Stephan Lerch: "We went into the match with a great deal of respect because we know Sand are a team that play with a lot of emotion and passion. But we kept our composure and the early goals we scored gave us an extra sense of security, allowing us to give our answers out on the pitch. Once we found our rhythm, we moved the ball around so well that we built up a head of steam. Winning by such a high margin in Sand is not something you can take for granted. The team put in a really strong performance."
