After numerous gruelling training sessions, VfL Wolfsburg’s winter training camp is coming to an end. The Wolves squad had little time to relax on Thursday, however, with head coach Oliver Glasner putting his players through their paces in another intense session at their base in Almancil, Portugal. After a thorough warm-up, the Green-and-Whites focused on tactical exercises before working on various set-piece routines.
Among the watching crowd was VfL managing director Dr. Tim Schumacher, who joined up with the playing squad on Wednesday. The Wolves play their first friendlies of the winter break on Friday, with Glasner’s side taking on FC Seoul at 14:00 CET before facing Geneva-based outfit Servette at 17:00 CET. Both games at the Estadio Municipal de Albufeira will be streamed live on YouTube by Wölfe TV, and every Wolves player is expected to be given a run-out.
Glasner is delighted with his players’ efforts in what has been a tiring few days in Portugal. “The best thing is that everyone’s fit,” said the head coach. “We had two players missing through illness in Jeffrey Bruma and William, but both are already back with us.”
Both Bruma and William have been suffering with a cold, but while the Dutch defender was able to complete the full session alongside his team-mates, the Brazilian full-back only took part in running drills. On the whole, though, Glasner was very happy with his charges’ performance and the content of Thursday’s session. “We did everything we set out to,” he said. “We now want to use what we practiced in our friendlies.”
