The journey home will be a happy one for the Wolves, after a savvy and mature performance gave them a 3-0 win away to Arminia Bielefeld, securing three valuable points in the battle for a European spot.
The Green-and-Whites have now gone nine games without a loss, and the statistics keep on coming: this was the seventh game in a row where the Wolves kept a clean sheet, while tonight’s victory was the fourth consecutive away win without conceding a goal – equalling a club record.
Oliver Glasner: “I’m very pleased and satisfied with the team’s performance. We knew that an away match at Bielefeld was always going to be a tough task, but right from the first whistle, we showed that we were up for the challenge. The lads were highly focused and let play flow well.
“To begin with, we struggled to find the spaces and Bielefeld were set up well, but then we took the lead thanks to a great move, doubled it straight after half-time and then followed that up with a wonderful third goal. It was a very mature and controlled performance out there today. I’d like to congratulate the team on how committed they are in every match. It will be important to maintain this level over the coming weeks. It was a great win for us. Now we can enjoy the long weekend ahead of us.”
Uwe Neuhaus: “VfL Wolfsburg earned their win. We started the match off very well and the opening minutes were very closely contested. Unfortunately, we made a mistake in the first half and VfL took the first chance that came their way and scored from it.
“After the break, things went relatively quickly and we lost our focus a little bit. And once it was 3-0, the game was out of reach already. Despite this, the team didn’t let their heads drop and kept looking for a way to get back into it. We’ll go away and analyse the match and work on making fewer mistakes.”
