Matchday 33 of the Bundesliga season concludes with the Wolves’ away fixture at RB Leipzig on Sunday evening (kick-off 20:30 CEST). In what’s set to be an exciting contest, Leipzig can secure the runners-up place with a point, while Champions League qualification is obviously the focus for VfL. If the Green-and-Whites get a point more than Eintracht Frankfurt or two more than Borussia Dortmund on the penultimate matchday, their place in Europe’s premier club competition will be confirmed.
In his press conference ahead of the match, head coach Oliver Glasner talked about…
…Leipzig’s defeat in the cup final: “I don’t know how Leipzig will react. Regardless of the outcome of yesterday’s game, I’m expecting strong hosts so we’ll need another very good performance and, in particular, efficiency. We’re travelling to Leipzig with the clear aim of winning the match, even though we know that won’t be easy.”
…the strain of the cup final on Leipzig: “I think every player can handle playing midweek, even at the end of the season, especially since RB have a big squad. Therefore I’m not expecting a Leipzig side who’ll be physically tired.”
…the chances of an away win: “If everything comes together in a big game such as this, we’re capable of winning in Leipzig. Small margins make the difference. We need a very good defensive performance. In every game we’ve had against RB up to now, we’ve had our chances – even if we’ve not managed a win yet. It’s about converting them. Of course, Leipzig will also create chances, so we need a good goalkeeper and a very good back line. We’ve been preparing for that during the week. We’re in a good position, so we’re travelling to Leipzig with confidence.”
…team news: “The players are fit. Apart from Renato Steffen and Bartosz Bialek, everyone’s available.”
