Training camp cancelled

VfL Women call off trip to Portugal due to state of the pandemic in the country.

VfL Wolfsburg Women have decided to cancel their planned winter training camp in Portugal due to a significant increase in the COVID-19 infection rate in the country (up from 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants to 1,600).
“We’ve always said that the health of everyone taking part in the training camp comes ahead of anything else,“ said Ralf Kellermann, sporting director of VfL Women. “And now it has emerged that we can no longer justify the trip to Portugal due to how quickly things have developed in terms of the pandemic. We therefore had no alternative but to cancel, which is a real shame. The training camp in Portugal was always an important part of our preparations for the rest of the league campaign, both on the pitch and also off it for the group dynamics. So now we’ll be doing everything we can to make the best of the situation and to lay the foundations for a successful second half of the season at home at Elsterweg, where we have excellent facilities.”
