“Tough to play against”

Oliver Glasner addresses the media ahead of the Wolves’ home match against Union Berlin.

At 15:30 CEST on Saturday 8 May, VfL Wolfsburg welcome 1. FC Union Berlin to the Volkswagen Arena looking to maintain their grip on third place with another three points. At the press conference ahead of the Matchday 32 encounter, head coach Oliver Glasner answered the media’s questions on…

…tension: “There are still no more nerves than normal. It was very unusual to have another break and to have the weekend off before the final three matchdays. We used the time to get together and prepare ourselves in training this week, as we always do. That said, we’re aware of the situation and that we can still cap an already fantastic season [by qualifying for the Champions League].”

…VfL’s opponents: “Union are a team who are very difficult to play against – they show that every week. They’re very strong physically, really well organised and are capable of playing with a lot of flexibility. In [Max] Kruse, they have a player in attack who is very well-known here in Wolfsburg and who often surprises people with his creativity. Union are also incredibly dangerous from set-pieces.”

…personnel: “Paulo Otavio was back with us today and didn’t have any major issues, so I’m expecting him to be fine. Renato Steffen and Bartosz Bialek won’t be available, but everyone else was with us on the pitch and didn’t have any problems.”

…mistakes in recent games: “We had a phase in which we hardly made any mistakes and defended at an unbelievably high level as a team. There are always periods in which mistakes happen and are punished. I hope we’ll start performing more consistently again, because the players have done an outstanding job so far.”
