Title chance lives on

VfL Women beat Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 on the penultimate matchday of the season.

VfL Wolfsburg came out on top in the first game of their double-header with Eintracht Frankfurt, earning a 3-2 victory in their last away fixture of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga campaign. Strikes from Fridolina Rolfö and Ewa Pajor as well as an own goal secured the victory that keeps alive the side’s chances winning the league title.

Bayern Munich remain top of the standings after beating Bayer 04 Leverkusen 4-0, and now only need to draw with Frankfurt on the final day of the season in order to wrap up the championship.

The She-Wolves face Frankfurt again this coming weekend on Sunday 30 May in the DFB Cup final (kick-off 16:00 CEST), looking to win the competition for a seventh consecutive time, and eighth overall. The Green-and-Whites take on SV Werder Bremen at the AOK Stadion in their last league game of the season on Sunday 6 June (kick-off 14:00 CEST).

“Pleased with the win”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “We want to keep going in the league so that we’re ready to pounce if Bayern drop points again. Even though that didn’t happen today, we’re still pleased with the win and we’ll now prepare ourselves for our next meeting with Eintracht in the DFB Cup final.”
