The Lady-Wolves must make do without the services of Gunnarsdottir, Pajor and Hansen.
A remarkably successful season for the VfL women now draws to an end and will ultimately finish with a home game against 1. FC Köln on Sunday, June 3rd (kick-off 14:00 CEST). Once again, the Green-Whites hoisted the DFB-Cup trophy and secured the Bundesliga crown ahead of time, whilst also reaching the final of the UEFA Women’s Champions League – a fantastic season, the intensiveness and strain of which is now beginning to take its toll on the Lady-Wolves. Going into the final match, the VfL ladies will be without Sara Gunnarsdottir, Ewa Pajor and Caroline Hansen.
Pajor to undergo surgery on Thursday
Gunnarsdottir suffered a partial tear to her right Achilles tendon during the Champions League final and will be unavailable to head-coach Stephan Lerch for up to ten weeks. Polish international Pajor incurred an outer-meniscus tear to her right knee and will duly undergo surgery on Thursday – keeping her out of action for an estimated six to eight weeks. Hansen will also be side-lined for the foreseeable future. The Norwegian must be rested due to extensive bruising to her buttocks. All three are expected to be fit again for the first game of the new season (15th and 16th September). VfL Wolfsburg wish all three Lady-Wolves a speedy and complete recovery!
