The coaches react to the Wolves’ 2-1 win over Hoffenheim.
After Renato Steffen (5’) and Wout Weghorst (26’) had given VfL a comfortable half-time lead, the Wolves had to survive a nervy finish at home to TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Sunday. However, thanks to Koen Casteels’ penalty save in second-half stoppage-time, the Green-and-Whites managed to hold on and secure a 2-1 victory.
The coaches’ post-match quotes
Oliver Glasner: “That was a very important win today against a good Hoffenheim side. We put in a good performance for the majority of the game. We scored two wonderful goals in the first half and controlled the match. In the second half we were pushed further back but had everything under control until the 75th minute. Our missed penalty coupled with Hoffenheim’s goal suddenly made things nerve-wracking and frantic. Everyone was biting their nails, but thankfully Koen saved the penalty. Overall, we thoroughly deserved the home win after the performance we put in today.”
Sebastian Hoeneß: “The fact is that we’re playing a lot of games and don’t have many opportunities to give players a rest, but I’m not going to start complaining. We were capable of doing Wolfsburg more damage with the team we had on the pitch today. It’d be absurd to talk about winning the match after the way we started, but for 60 minutes we were able to turn the game in our favour, create a lot of chances and not give much away at the other end – particularly in the second half. At the end of the day, we showed what we’re capable of.”
