The Green-and-Whites rounded off a busy week with a win, taking the team’s tally to seven points from three games over the past seven days. After the 2-2 draw with RB Leipzig, Oliver Glasner’s men won 2-0 at 1. FSV Mainz 05 on Tuesday evening and followed that up with a 1-0 triumph away to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday.
The Wolves deserved to take all three points thanks to their tactical discipline, beating a direct rival in the race for European qualification.
Oliver Glasner: “We were very lucky in the first five or six minutes. Leverkusen let us off the hook, although they should have been 2-0 up by then. After that we got up to speed, improved as the match wore on, were compact at the back and dangerous going forward. Our goal was really nicely worked. Leverkusen put us under pressure in the second half, but we didn’t really allow them any clear-cut chances. I would’ve liked us to take the pressure off ourselves a bit more, but the boys deserve a lot of credit for their tactical discipline and the amount of ground they covered. That was the foundation for our win today.”
Peter Bosz: “Wolfsburg deserved to win in the end, although we started very well. Against such a well-organised team you have to score if you have three or four good chances at the start. We didn’t do that and that made life increasingly hard for us. We weren’t able to carve out any more clear openings for ourselves.”
