After winning 2-0 at Bayer 04 Leverkusen at the weekend, the Wolves continue their UEFA Champions League campaign against FC Salzburg at the Volkswagen Arena on Tuesday (kick-off 18:45 CET).

VfL are bottom of their group after three matches but can still book their place in the knockout stages of the competition, while Salzburg are one of five teams – including Liverpool, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Ajax – who can qualify for the last 16 on Matchday 4. Read on for more facts and figures on the home game against the Austrian champions…

  • The teams had never played each other prior to their Matchday 3 meeting in Austria, which Salzburg deservedly won 3-1.

  • Salzburg are taking part in the Champions League group stage for the third season in a row. They were demoted to the Europa League in both their previous two campaigns after finishing third in their group.

  • The visitors have one of Florian Kohfeldt’s former captains in their ranks. Thirty-four-year-old midfielder Zlatko Junuzovic, who is currently sidelined through injury, played under VfL’s new head coach at Werder Bremen in 2017/18.

  • Salzburg head coach Matthias Jaissle made 31 Bundesliga appearances for TSG Hoffenheim – including one at the Volkswagen Arena in 2009/10, when Steve McClaren’s Wolves side came back from 2-0 down to draw 2-2 thanks to goals from Diego and Edin Dzeko.
