The countdown continues to the start of the Wolves training at the Volkswagen Arena and thus the official start of the looming 2018/2019 season. On Sunday, July 1st at 11:00 CEST, Bruno Labbadia and his coaching staff, which will include the new addition of assistant coach Olaf Janßen, the activities for the coming campaign will begin on the VfL training grounds. 27 players, including new signings Felix Klaus, Pavao Pervan, Wout Weghorst and Daniel Ginczek will all participate in the first session in preparation for the coming season.
William forced out through illness
In spite of the impressive number of participants, the VfL fans will not see all of the Green-Whites in action on Sunday, with seven players to miss out on Sunday. World Cup participants Koen Casteels and Jakub Blaszczykowski will miss out, as will the ill William, who is expected to return at the beginning of the week, Victor Osimhen and Sebastian Jung, who are both in rehabilitative training following injuries, Nany Landry Dimata and Kaylen Hinds, who will not begin with training until Monday on private grounds. However, the recently on-loan Paul Seguin, Ismail Azzaoui, Marvin Stefaniak and Paul-Georges Ntep all return.
New numbers for Brekalo, Mehmedi and Tisserand
Aside from the new faces within the squad, the fans will also have to get used to some unfamiliar Wolves squad numbers. That not only applies to the new signings, who will don the numbers 9 (Weghorst), 11 (Klaus), 12 (Pervan) and 33 (Ginczek). A long-established trio will begin this campaign with different numbers to the ones they had last season. Josip Brekalo exchanges the number 21 for 7, Admir Mehmedi takes 14 in place of 22 and Marcel Tisserand trades in the number 29 in favour of 32.
