Three goals and captain’s armband
Ewa Pajor was in top form in Poland’s friendlies against Finland and Czech Republic. Wearing the captain’s armband, she scored the equaliser as the Poles came from two goals down to draw 2-2 against Finland. Then in the 5-0 win over the Czechs, the forward scored the first two goals and set up another.
No She-Wolves against Chile
Felicitas Rauch, Svenjka Huth and Lena Oberdorf all featured in Germany’s friendly against France in Strasbourg, but could not prevent a narrow 1-0 defeat to the impressive French. In the second friendly – a 0-0 draw against Chile in Offenbach – the VfL trio were left out to manage their fatigue and muscular problems.
Clean sheets for Sweden
Reigning European champions Netherlands were in goal-hungry mood in a friendly against Norway, whose side featured Ingrid Engen – officially still a Wolfsburg player until the end of the month – and former She-Wolf Karina Saevik. Shanice van de Sanden and incoming VfL signing Jill Roord were among the scorers in a 7-0 rout for the Dutch, who had lost 1-0 in Italy prior to that match. Norway also lost by the same scoreline to Olympic participants Sweden, for whom Rebecka Blomqvist and Fridolina Rolfö missed out due to injury. However, the VfL pair – Rolfö is also still officially a She-Wolf – did feature in a goalless draw against Australia.
Finally, there were mixed fortunes for Denmark and Sofie Svava as a 3-2 win over Australia was followed by a 3-0 reverse in Spain.
