The She-Wolves have their sights set on silverware this week, and could lift the cup with victory over Freiburg at the RheinEnergieSTADION in Cologne on Wednesday 1 May (kick-off 17:15 CEST).
After his side's final training session, VfL head coach Stephan Lerch discussed…
… his team's role of favourites: "We've earned that role thanks to our successes over the past few years and our objective is to beat Freiburg and win the DFB Cup. It could be an advantage for us that we've got experience of playing in finals and are used to being favourites in the league. However, that doesn't really count for very much in a final. Anything can happen in games like this."
… a fifth successive cup triumph: "Being back in Cologne for the final isn't something we can take for granted. We're still hungry for more medals. We've got a lot of players with experience in games like this and who know how to handle the situation. That doesn't mean we don't get any butterflies in our stomachs though. Our senses are heightened and everyone's looking forward to the match."
… the opposition: "Freiburg are the underdogs so they can play with freedom. They'll want to make the most of being in that position. They have a lot of injuries, but they've still got plenty of quality in the squad. That said, we're primarily focusing on our own game."
