“Show we can match Bayern”

VfL Wolfsburg host the German record champions.

On Saturday 17 April (kick-off 15:30 CEST), the Wolves host FC Bayern Munich at the Volkswagen Arena on Bundesliga Matchday 29, and they’re determined to get a result to keep up their chances of qualifying for the UEFA Champions League next season. In his pre-match press conference, VfL head coach Oliver Glasner discussed…

…the opposition: “We have great respect for Bayern Munich and of course we watched their game in midweek. They’re going to put everything into winning the Bundesliga title, so I’m expecting a very good side from Munich. We’re hugely looking forward to the game and we want to show that we can match Bayern.”

…the challenge of playing Bayern: “It will come down to effectiveness. We’re capable of creating one or two goalscoring opportunities for ourselves, as we showed in Munich. On top of that, we need a very disciplined performance in defence – much better and more resolute than in Frankfurt. We have to make use of the spaces that we’ll get for brief moments. If we produce the necessary effectiveness on the day, I believe we can win.”

…the busy week ahead: “The upcoming assignments should give us positive energy for what we can achieve. At this stage of the season, it’s about being rewarded and reaping the harvest. Everyone’s put in a lot of effort over the year and we can’t afford any tiredness now. We’ll pool all our strengths so that we can still win a lot.”

…team news: “Renato Steffen and Josuha Guilavogui remain absent. Maximilian Arnold is suspended. All other players are fit and have trained all week. Admir Mehmedi will also be back in the squad.”
