She-Wolves win first friendly

The VfL Wolfsburg women’s team beat FC Twente 5-0 on Friday.

Four days into their preparations for the second half of the season, the VfL Ladies thrashed Dutch top-flight side FC Twente 5-0 in the first of three arranged friendlies. Nilla Fischer, Pernille Harder, Ewa Pajor, Sara Doorsoun and Caroline Hansen scored the Green-Whites’ first goals of 2019 at the Stadion am Elsterweg. The She-Wolves’ other two winter friendlies, against Sporting CP on 28 January and 1. FFC Frankfurt on 1 February, will take place during the team’s training camp in Portugal (23 January - 3 February).

‘A worthwhile exercise’

Head coach Stephan Lerch: “Considering we’ve had some tough training sessions this week and the pitch wasn’t the best, the team did well today. We enjoyed ourselves, kept trying to move the ball around and scored goals to boot. We gave away too much space at the back in some situations – that’s something for us to work on in the future. It was a worthwhile exercise for us, and it helped that Twente wanted to play good football. I’m very pleased with what I saw today and we can build on it in the coming weeks.”
