The She-Wolves have turned to Scandinavia for their newest signing, with Sweden international Rebecka Blomqvist joining VfL Wolfsburg from Swedish champions Kopparbergs/Göteborg FC as of 1 December 2020. The 23-year-old versatile attacker has signed a contract with the German double winners through to 30 June 2023, and has been given the number 16 shirt.
Blomqvist made a total of 122 league appearances for Göteborg since 2014, scoring 45 goals. She recently helped the club to their first ever league title, while her greatest success at international level came in 2015, when she won the European Women’s Under-19 Championship. She’s made three appearances for the Swedish senior team to date.
“Looking forward to continuing my development”
“I’m extremely happy to be given this chance and to take the next step in my career at VfL Wolfsburg,” commented Blomqvist. “VfL are a professionally run club who have been at the top in Europe for many years. I’m very much looking forward to continuing my development as a player and a person in this environment.”
“Can play in pretty much any position in attack”
Ralf Kellermann, VfL Women sporting director, said: “We’ve been tracking Rebecka’s development for some time and we’re convinced that now is the right time for a move, especially as she’s now out of contract and therefore available on a free. She’s a dangerous, versatile forward who can play in pretty much any position in attack. Given that our squad is stretched by departures and injuries, plus the packed fixture calendar we have over the coming weeks and months, we’re very happy that we’ve been able to bolster the depth of our squad with Rebecka.”
