The VfL Wolfsburg Women picked up their 17th league win on Matchday 18 of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga season with a 5-1 triumph at home to Frankfurt. The result leaves Stephan Lerch’s charges 11 points clear at the top of the table, although second-placed Bayern Munich are set to face 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam on Sunday.
Svenja Huth hit a brace for the She-Wolves, with Alexandra Popp, Fridolina Rolfö and Ewa Pajor also on the scoresheet. Laura Freigang netted the consolation for the visitors.
The Green-and-Whites’ next game is on Wednesday 10 June (kick-off 14:00 CEST) when they travel to second-tier side DSC Arminia Bielefeld in the DFB Cup semi-finals.
“Another step forward”
VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “This game was a lot more attractive than the last few outings, which is mainly down to 1. FFC Frankfurt defending bravely. It was intense and we had to work hard at the back too. We were extremely effective in the first half and always looked dangerous at set-pieces. After the break we had more of the ball, even if Frankfurt managed to get their goal. Overall, today we took another step forward in terms of getting back into our rhythm.”
