She-Wolves host Leverkusen

Bayer 04 Leverkusen are VfL Women’s next opponents in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga.

Die Spielerinnen des VfL Wolfsburg freuen sich und klatschen sich ab.

VfL Women welcome fifth-placed Bayer Leverkusen to the AOK Stadion on Sunday (kick-off 14:00 CET). Ahead of the match, head coach Stephan Lerch answered questions on…

…team news: “The squad that we had at our disposal in Hungary on Wednesday is available again – plus Lena Oberdorf, who as things stand is fit again. Lisanne Gräwe has a bit of a muscle injury, but she’ll play in an U20 friendly against Leipzig, as will Almuth Schult.”

…the opposition: “Leverkusen are the team of the moment, you could say. I wouldn’t have expected them to be ahead of teams like Frankfurt, Essen and Freiburg – hats off. And they only lost 1-0 to Bayern, although they did also lose 6-0 against Hoffenheim. I don’t know how firm they are when you put them under pressure. Obviously we’ll need to have an eye on Milena Nikolic, who’s scoring very consistently at the moment.”

…VfL’s strategy: “I’m hoping that Leverkusen will be a bit braver so that we’re not up against another defensive wall. I’d also like us to have success from set plays because these will become even more important over the next few weeks. We’re working very intently on that at the moment. Particularly in tight games, set pieces can open the door.”
