She-Wolves hit double figures

The VfL Ladies kicked off the new UEFA Women's Champions League season with a remarkable 10-0 win away to KFF Mitrovica in the first leg of their Round of 32 tie.

Having begun the 2019/20 campaign successfully in the domestic league and cup, the Green-Whites continued their good form on the European stage too, with head coach Stephan Lerch's charges thrashing KFF Mitrovica on Wednesday evening.

Pernille Harder scored a second-half hat-trick and Noelle Maritz grabbed a brace, while Ewa Pajor, Svenja Huth, Zsanett Jakabfi, Claudia Neto and Kristine Minde also got on the scoresheet in a decidedly one-sided encounter. The return leg will take place on Wednesday 25 September at the AOK Stadion (kick-off 18:00 CEST).

"You don't score ten goals very often"

Stephan Lerch: "We prepared ourselves to face deep-lying opponents and that's the way the match panned out. Our plan was to create spaces by switching the play frequently, and we did that very well. The team deserves credit for keeping the tempo high right until the final whistle. They didn't ease off and kept on wanting to score more goals. You don't score ten in the Champions League very often. With that in mind, it was a very dominant victory, but given the way the opposition's resistance continually diminished, we won't be getting ahead of ourselves."
