She-Wolves held

VfL Women had to settle for a 1-1 draw away to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.

After four consecutive wins, VfL Wolfsburg Women were unable to take maximum points from a FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga game for the first time since mid-October, as they rounded out the first half of the season with a 1-1 draw away to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday afternoon.

The result means Bayern Munich could return to the league summit on Sunday if the reigning champions win their match away to 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam. The She-Wolves also face Potsdam before the year is out, with Tommy Stroot’s side travelling to the Karl-Liebknecht-Stadion on Sunday 19 December (kick-off: 16:00 CET).

Before then, however, the Green-and-Whites have a showdown at the AOK Stadion in their final UEFA Women’s Champions League group match on Thursday 16 December (kick-off 21:00 CET). VfL need to beat Chelsea Women FC by at least two goals to go through to the knockout rounds.

Post-match reaction

Tommy Stroot: “We knew we’d have to grit our teeth and bear it today after the short period of recovery time following the match in Geneva. It was always going to be a matter of grinding it out. Today we didn’t have the energy to get at them again. I think the reasons for that are mental ones. We’d have liked to have won, but we could only managed a draw. We have to live with that and move on.”
