She-Wolves close in on title

The VfL Ladies are one win away from a third successive Bundesliga title after cruising to a 7-0 win against SC Sand on Sunday.

Just six days after their impressive 5-0 win over MSV Duisburg, the She-Wolves cemented their place at the top of the Allianz Women’s Bundesliga with a 7-0 home victory over SC Sand. Alexandra Popp (2), Zsanett Jakabfi, Pernille Harder, Caroline Hansen, Babett Peter and Sara Björk Gunnarsdóttir got their names on the scoresheet in front of 1,602 supporters at AOK Stadion. The Green-Whites will be crowned champions for a fifth time if they win at TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Sunday 5 May (kick-off 14:00 CEST).

“We just wanted to keep going”

VfL head coach Stephan Lerch: “I have to give my players great credit today. We wanted to focus completely on this game and we were able to do so from the first minute. We just wanted to keep going and get the next goal, which enabled us to go into half-time with a comfortable lead. Sand made changes in the second half and tried to be more compact. It wasn’t as easy for us after that, but we continued to dominate, play well and even missed one or two good opportunities. We also defended very well for the most part, making it a successful day overall. We now need to take this momentum into our upcoming games.”
