VfL Wolfsburg’s first match of the 2020/21 season will be their DFB Cup first-round tie away to Union Fürstenwalde. For seven Wolves, though, there are important assignments with their national teams before that. After Saturday’s 3-0 friendly win at 1. FC Köln, those players headed straight off to join up with their respective squads: Josip Brekalo (Croatia), Koen Casteels (Belgium), Kevin Mbabu, Renato Steffen (both Switzerland), Pavao Pervan and Xaver Schlager (both Austria) are representing their countries in the UEFA Nations League, while recent signing Bartosz Bialek is linking up with the Poland Under-21 squad for two qualifiers for the U21 EURO.
