“Realistic chance of a result”

VfL head coach Florian Kohfeldt looks ahead to the home match against Borussia Dortmund.

After losing 2-0 at Sevilla FC in the Champions League on Tuesday, the Wolves welcome Borussia Dortmund to the Volkswagen Arena on Saturday 27 November (kick-off 15:30 CET). At his pre-match press conference, VfL head coach Florian Kohfeldt spoke about…

…processing the Sevilla match: “There’s no reason to let our heads drop, and therefore our attention has turned towards the match against Dortmund. It wasn’t our best performance in the Champions League on Tuesday night, but in terms of the result it was close. Against Dortmund we want to find the right mix again – of tension, but without losing focus of how we want to play. So, I’m feeling really positive for the match against BVB and I’m sure we can deliver a very good performance, which gives us a realistic chance of getting a result at home.”

...the opposition: “Dortmund certainly didn’t have their finest hour in midweek [losing 3-1 at Sporting Lisbon], but there’s a huge amount of quality in their team. I’m looking forward to the match because there’s a lot of individual quality on both sides. We can’t rely on Dortmund being bruised at all. The team will have a lot of fire in their bellies here.”

…the double burden of the Bundesliga and Champions League: “I’m convinced we’re absolutely capable of playing in both competitions. We have a very good fitness level, so the medical department and all the colleagues involved deserve great credit. That’s why I’m not worried about the strain of playing in both.”

…the Wolves’ goal threat: “Of course, our general aim must be to score more goals, but I can only judge the period that I’ve been coach here. In that time we didn’t score in one game, we scored one goal in one game and two goals in three games – against Salzburg, Leverkusen and Bielefeld. So, it’s not as if we’re not creating any chances. In the context of the last few weeks, Sevilla was more of an anomaly in the wrong direction.”

...team news: “We’ve come through this week in good shape physically. Aside from the long-term absentees, there’s just a question mark over Renato Steffen. There’s a chance he’ll be available for selection, though.”
