VfL Women’s UWCL ties against Chelsea will both be played in Hungary.
Current travel restrictions across Europe are creating a unique situation for VfL Women. For the first time in their history, the two-time Champions League winners will be playing a home match outside Germany.
Both the first and the second leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final against English champions Chelsea will be held at the Szusza Ferenc Stadium in Budapest. The two teams will face off in the first leg in the Hungarian capital on Wednesday 24 March (kick-off at 17:00 CET/live on Wölfe TV), with the second leg the following week, on Wednesday 31 March (kick-off at 14:00 CEST/live on Wölfe TV) at the same location.
Three matches in a row in Hungary
The Szusza Ferenc Stadium is home to Hungarian top-flight outfit Ujpest Budapest and can seat around 13,000 fans. It has already been used as a neutral venue in this season’s UEFA Europa League. The decision to play the matches there means that the She-Wolves will have three consecutive UWCL games in Hungary, having made it to this stage of the competition courtesy of a 2-0 win over LSK Kvinner in Györ in the round of 16 second leg.
