Defensive talent Anselmo Garcia MacNulty will remain with the Wolves until 2024.
VfL Wolfsburg have tied youngster Anselmo Garcia MacNulty to a long-term contract. The centre-back, who joined the VfL academy from Real Betis in 2019, has put pen to paper on a deal until 2024 – his first professional contract. “Anselmo has rightly earned this professional contract through very good performances at every age level he’s played at, and thanks to his continual development in the last couple of years. We are convinced by his potential,” said VfL sporting director Marcel Schäfer on Garcia MacNulty, who was born in Spain to an Irish mother.
The 18-year-old has already featured for three VfL teams during his two years in Wolfsburg. In the 2019/20 season, he made 20 appearances for the Wolves’ U17s, posting five goals and two assists. During the 2020/21 campaign – which was halted early due to the coronavirus pandemic – he made three outings each for the U19 and U23 sides. The defender has also played nine times for Republic of Ireland U17s, scoring three goals.
