VfL captain Alexandra Popp to undergo surgery on her right knee.
VfL Wolfsburg Women received some bad news when further medical examinations revealed that Alexandra Popp’s knee injury is worse than first feared. The team captain is expected to undergo surgery on her right knee this week, and as a result will be out of action for both VfL and the German national team for several months. The exact length of time she will be on the sidelines depends on her recovery from the operation.
“A shock for Alex and the entire team”
“It’s a shock for Alex and the entire team,” said VfL Women sporting director Ralf Kellermann. “We were optimistic that she’d be able to play again before the end of the season, but now we’re even more determined to win the DFB Cup for her and to keep our slim title hopes alive. We’d like to wish Alex all the best for the operation and the recovery process.”
