The Wolves visit Werder Bremen on Saturday 20 March in their last match before the international break (kick-off 15:30 CET), and after last week’s emphatic 5-0 win over Schalke, Oliver Glasner’s team are aiming to collect another three points on Bundesliga Matchday 26. In his press conference on Thursday, the VfL head coach gave his thoughts on the opposition as well as…
…whether to expect a repeat of the eventful reverse fixture (5-3): “Any scoreline is fine with me as long as we win. Our aim is to get three points in Bremen. The home side play compactly, and then transition extremely quickly and have a lot of options in attack. In that respect, I’m expecting a similar game to the one we had at home, although we need to make fewer mistakes. Bremen were very effective at the Volkswagen Arena, scoring three goals from their three attempts. At the other end, I hope that we attack in a similar way and score nice goals again.”
…Bremen’s style of play: “It’s hard to find gaps against them. Not only that, they have the personnel to play on the counter. They also played some good football when they had the ball against Bayern Munich. I don’t think they’ll give us anything. We want to pick up where we left off against Schalke, by putting the opposition under pressure and forcing mistakes.”
…team news: “Marin Pongracic has a problem with his calf. He’s got a slight muscle strain and will miss out. Kevin Mbabu had a thigh issue but he trained fully with the team again today, so he’ll be available in Bremen. Renato Steffen and Paulo Otavio are definitely out. There’s also a little question mark over Jeffrey Bruma, who’s injured his ankle.
