Babett Peter will continue her successful career in the Spanish women’s football league. The Germany international, capped 118 times by her country, has left VfL Wolfsburg to join CD Tacon, where she has signed a contract until 30 June 2021. The VfL Women management granted Peter’s request to cancel her contract, which still had a year remaining, and the move was possible due to Spain having a longer transfer window than other European leagues. Tacon will merge with Real Madrid ahead of the 2020/21 season and form the women’s football section of the Spanish giants.
“Not easy to say goodbye”
Peter is one of the world’s most successful female footballers, having picked up almost every major honour at both international and club level. The defender has won three German titles and five DFB Cups with VfL Wolfsburg, making 95 appearances in the Women’s Bundesliga, 20 in the cup and 30 in the UEFA Women’s Champions League.
“After five successful years at VfL Wolfsburg with lots of emotional moments, great successes but also difficult periods, it’s not easy to say goodbye,” said Peter. “Things haven’t been as easy for me on the pitch lately, so I’m looking to take on a new challenge. I’m very grateful to VfL Wolfsburg for allowing me to start a new, exciting chapter in my career. My thanks also go to the loyal VfL fans, who have supported me and the team in good times and bad. I wish the team all the best for this season from the bottom of my heart!”
