Olaf Rebbe will leave his role as VfL Wolfsburg Director of Sport on 30 June 2018 after both parties mutually agreed to terminate his contract. He has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect. "We would like to thank Olaf Rebbe for his faithful service and the good working relationship over the last five years," said Wolfgang Hotze, spokesman for the Management Board. "He took over the role of Director of Sport in December 2016 during a very difficult time for the club. He helped VfL Wolfsburg stay in the top flight in May 2017 following an intense second half of the season."
Fellow member of the Management Board Dr. Tim Schumacher said: "Olaf Rebbe successfully drove a period of rebuilding forward and he has my utmost respect for that. During his time as Director of Sport he created a new infrastructure in the youth academy and also implemented the concept of the VfL-Fußball.Akademie. During this time, home-grown players such as Gian-Luca Itter, Elvis Rexhbecaj and Paul Jaeckel were integrated into the first team squad."
Rebbe himself made the following statement: "VfL Wolfsburg and the club's staff have grown dear to my heart over the last five years. I would like to thank everyone involved here and wish the club, its fans and the city many more VfL victories in the future."
