Lena Oberdorf in einem Zweikampf.

VfL Wolfsburg Women play their DFB Cup quarter-final tie at home to Werder Bremen on Saturday (kick-off 14:00 CET), knowing that victory would book their place in the last four and set up another home game against either TSG 1899 Hoffenheim or Bayern Munich, who meet on Friday. Ahead of the encounter, head coach Stephan Lerch discussed…

…team news: “We’ve got everyone available apart from Pauline Bremer and Julia Kassen. Lena Oberdorf hurt her nose a bit in the game against Leverkusen so she’s currently using a mask in training as a precaution. But it shouldn’t be a problem for the game itself.”

…the opposition: “Bremen will probably be without an important player in Agata Tarczynska, who’s doubtful for the match. But they beat Freiburg 2-1, so they’re probably safe from relegation now. That means they can come into this cup game with a sense of freedom, although they only played on Wednesday so that will have drained them a bit. With that in mind, we’ll have to keep the tempo high right from the off.”

…the significance of the game in terms of the upcoming fixtures: “It’ll be important to go into the next few weeks with a good feeling, and we can do that if we beat Bremen without conceding, and ideally play well too.”
