Locking horns again

The Green-Whites travel to KAA Gent for their third UEFA Europa League fixture.

Matchday 3 of the Europa League sees VfL Wolfsburg take on Gent at the Ghelamco Arena (kick-off 18:55 CEST). With four points from two games, the Wolves are on track in first place in Group I. After a 1-1 draw at French record champions AS Saint-Étienne last time out, they’re back on their travels to face an old adversary in 2015 Belgian champions Gent. The two sides met during the 2015/16 Champions League round of 16, in which VfL came out on top in both legs. Julian Draxler’s brace and Max Kruse’s second goal in the competition gave them a 3-2 win in the first leg in Belgium, and the Green-Whites sealed their place in the quarter-finals with a 1-0 victory in the return match, Andre Schürrle scoring the goal. Koen Casteels, Maximilian Arnold, Robin Knoche and Josuha Guilavogui still remain from the two starting line-ups in that tie.

Back to the present day, Danish coach Jess Thorup’s side are currently third in Belgian First Division A as well as being unbeaten in the Europa League. Gent beat Saint-Étienne 3-2 at home before drawing 1-1 with FC Oleksandriya in Ukraine.

Healthy away following

VfL will have plenty of support at the 20,000-capacity Ghelamco Arena on Thursday evening, with Wolves fans snapping up their entire allocation of 1,000 tickets.
