Blaszczykowski equals caps record
Jakub Blaszczykowski made his 102nd appearance for Poland in their 1-1 UEFA Nations League draw with Italy, equalling Michal Zewlakow’s previous best. ‘Kuba’ can now make the record his own in Tuesday’s friendly against the Republic of Ireland (kick-off 20:45).
Defeat for Malli und, Casteels‘ Belgium comfortable
Yunus Malli’s Turkey also kicked off their UEFA Nations League campaign on Friday, going down 2-1 against Russia. Malli came on in the 71st minute. Meanwhile, VfL keeper Koen Casteels watched from the bench as his Belgium side beat Scotland 4-0.
Comeback for Brooks
John Anthony Brooks made his first appearance following a 15-month injury lay-off in the USA’s 2-0 defeat by Brazil. The American defender, who spent the entirety of last season sidelined, played the full 90 minutes in what was his 33rd international cap.
Debut for Uduokhai, Itter scores
Meanwhile Felix Uduokhai made his Germany Under-21 debut in a 3-0 win against Mexico, playing the full 90 minutes. In the age group below, Gian-Luca Itter scored for Germany’s Under-20s in a 3-2 win against the Czech Republic. His brother Davide-Jerome also played, coming on as an 84th-minute substitute.
