Gian-Luca Itter has left VfL Wolfsburg and completed a move to Bundesliga rivals SC Freiburg after exercising a release clause in his contract, which was due to expire in 2021. The 20-year-old joined the Wolfsburg Under-18s in January 2015 from Eintracht Frankfurt and progressed all the way through to the first-team squad, making seven Bundesliga appearances to date, although he primarily featured in the U-23 team.

The Giessen-born defender, who has also been a regular in the Germany U-20 side, is the third player to leave the Green-Whites this summer, following the departures of Paul Verhaegh and Sebastian Jung, whose contracts both expired.
