“It’ll be a very interesting game”

VfL Wolfsburg are away to TSG Hoffenheim on Sunday.

Just four points lie between the Wolves and Hoffenheim going into their clash in Sinsheim on Sunday (kick-off 15:30 CEST). VfL are looking to climb up to sixth place in the table – the position currently occupied by TSG, who still have hopes of finishing in the UEFA Champions League spots. At his pre-match press conference on Friday, head coach Bruno Labbadia spoke about…

…his expectations of the game: “I think it’s going to be just as intense as our game against them earlier in the season, when we played well for a long time but Hoffenheim’s quality came through in the end. They’re doing very well at the moment, they’re on a roll and scoring lots of goals. They want to maintain their position and we want to climb back up the table, so I think it’ll be a very interesting game.”

…the personnel situation: “We have to wait and see whether Daniel Ginczek is available. He was unable to train today because of a back problem. Felix Uduokhai and Paul Verhaegh won’t be available, and Jerome Roussillon is a major doubt. The tests revealed nothing, unfortunately it hasn’t got better and he had to drop out of training again today. We’re considering our options. John Brooks is still nursing a ligament strain from the Frankfurt game – he only completed some parts of team training today.”

…the importance of the match: “This game is one of four important ones. I’ve seen too often that teams write themselves off after one defeat during this period. I know the game is important but the race for Europe won’t be decided there. One thing’s for sure, though: the better the result, the easier it will be to stay in the mix.”
