“It’ll be very tough”

VfL head coach Oliver Glasner addressed the media ahead of his side’s UEFA Europa League Matchday 3 clash away to KAA Gent on Thursday (kick-off 18:55 CEST).

The Wolves face the Buffalos in an encounter between two in-form teams eager to continue impressive runs. VfL go into the match unbeaten in their last 20 competitive assignments, but Belgian outfit Gent - coached by Danish tactician Jess Thorup - are currently enjoying a similar streak. Not only have they gone undefeated at the Ghelamco Arena this season, they have also won all 11 fixtures on home turf.

At his pre-match press conference on Wednesday, Glasner discussed….

… KAA Gent: “They’ve won their last 11 games at home, which says a lot about the team. They’ve got tremendous belief in front of their own fans. They’ve got very good players in their midfield diamond and also have two very robust strikers in Roman Yaremchuk and Laurent Depoitre, who are always able to score. It’ll be a very tough match, but we’re looking forward to it.”

…gaining self-confidence after drawing 1-1 away to RB Leipzig: “Of course that game gives us confidence because we saw that we were able to compete. Having said that, it’s in the past now. If you look at the Europa League standings both teams have four points, so I think whoever comes out on top in this head-to-head will definitely have an advantage in terms of progressing to the knockout rounds.”

…changes to his starting line-up: “We’ve got a packed schedule with four games over the next nine days, so we’ll have to see how we can give a breather to one or two players. We’ll wait and see whether we do that against Gent or against Augsburg on Sunday. Unfortunately Felix Klaus is sick so he stayed at home.”
