VfL Wolfsburg meet Union Berlin in the Bundesliga for the first time on Sunday.
Having just returned from European action, the Wolves’ next assignment awaits: Oliver Glasner’s side welcome 1. FC Union Berlin to the Volkswagen Arena on Bundesliga Matchday 7 this Sunday (kick-off 15:30 CEST). At Friday’s press conference ahead of the match, VfL coach Glasner spoke about...
…the latest injuries: “Lukas Nmecha suffered a slight concussion yesterday. He’s currently on his way back as he spent the night in hospital in France with our team doctor. Luckily it’s nothing serious but he has to sit out for five to seven days. We picked up quite a few injuries in the game against Saint-Étienne: Jerome Roussillon, Marcel Tisserand and Josip Brekalo are doubtful. On the positive side, Admir Mehmedi declared himself fit in training today. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow until we can say how the personnel situation is looking.”
…possible changes due to injuries: “We have a lot of players who have been deserving of a chance for a long time. Should one or two not be available, then I have full confidence in the other boys. Lots of players who are on the supposed fringes have shown in the recent past what they’re capable of. I’m glad we have such a good squad. There’s no point in complaining. We know the games are going to be intense and for us it’s about summoning all our strength and being fighting fit for Sunday.
…expectations of Union Berlin: “We saw in the friendly at our training camp that it’s not easy playing against them. Union are a physically strong side who get it forward without fuss and are very dangerous from set pieces. They’ll certainly be expecting us to be tired from the Europa League and will step on the gas. Our job is to resist that and bring energy into our attack with some fresh legs.”
