The identity of VfL Wolfsburg’s opponents in the UEFA Women’s Champions League final (Sunday 30 August, kick-off 20:00 CEST) was confirmed on Wednesday, when reigning European champions Lyon beat PSG 1-0 in their semi-final clash.
After clinching the She-Wolves’ place in the final with the only goal in their 1-0 win over Barcelona, Fridolina Rolfö reveals her excitement at playing in Sunday’s final.
Fridolina Rolfö, has your phone blown up after receiving so many messages since your semi-final goal?
Fridolina Rolfö: “Yes, I received a lot of messages after the game. We get an unbelievable amount of support from home and throughout the whole world. That makes us happy and helps us a great deal, particularly as no fans can support us inside the stadium. We think it’s great that so many people are following us and keeping their fingers crossed for us on TV and via social media.”
Your opponents in the final have now been confirmed. What did you make of Lyon in their game against PSG?
Fridolina: “It was a very hard-fought game. PSG played very aggressively and won a lot of balls. That wasn’t easy for Lyon, but you could tell once again that when Lyon are given a chance, they’re ready for it and end up getting the goal. We need to be very careful and alert against them to prevent situations like that.”
