Holders looking to avoid upset

VfL Women travel to FSV Gütersloh 2009 in the DFB Cup quarter-finals.

Following the restart in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga, the DFB Cup is also getting back under way this week. Tomorrow, 3 June (kick-off 19:00 CEST), VfL Women play their quarter-final tie at second-tier side FSV Gütersloh 2009, which was originally scheduled for 21 March. For Gütersloh, the meeting with the cup holders is their first match since the coronavirus outbreak, as the second division season in German women’s football has been cancelled.

“Get through to the next round”

Stephan Lerch’s team go into the game as heavy favourites. “We want to live up to that role and get through to the next round,” said Lerch.

Another trip to North Rhine-Westphalia?

The Green-and-Whites’ personnel situation is unchanged, with Sara Doorsoun (knee), Felicitas Rauch (muscular problem) and Madelen Janogy (personal reasons) still absent. Should the She-Wolves avoid an upset, they could face another trip to North Rhine-Westphalia in the semi-finals, where either Arminia Bielefeld or SC Sand will be their opponents. The final in Cologne takes place on 4 July.
