The thoughts of the coaches on an incredible cup tie in Halle.
Following the Wolves’ dramatic 5-3 win in extra time, both coaches agreed that it was a deserved victory for VfL Wolfsburg.
Oliver Glasner: “I want to congratulate Hallescher for a really committed performance. It was extremely difficult for us here tonight. We fell behind to the opponents’ first shot on goal, reacted brilliantly but then we weren’t alert at set-pieces after the break. I take my hat off to my team for what they produced in extra time. We were a man down, conceded the equaliser in stoppage time but then came back, held firm and saw it through. Therefore, I think we deserved to progress.”
Torsten Ziegner: “Congratulations to VfL Wolfsburg on what was a deserved win if you take the whole 120 minutes. Both teams really went for it, and we knew that was the only way that we’d have a chance. Except for the first five minutes of extra time, we did very well. To come back twice against a Bundesliga team shows great character but the quality that Wolfsburg showed, particularly when they down to 10 men, made the difference in the end, so it’s a fair result. Nevertheless, we’re all going home content.”
