Halfway point in Portugal

She-Wolves set for friendly against Sporting CP.

The VfL Ladies have now been at their training camp on the Algarve coast for six days. After various gruelling sessions, head coach Stephan Lerch and his team face their first friendly against Sporting CP on Wednesday. The game is due to kick off at 18:00 CET and will be streamed live by VfL Wolfsburg if facilities at the Estádio Municipal 25 de Abril in Castro Verde allow.

Schult to miss out

VfL goalkeeper Almuth Schult will not be involved in the game against the Lisbon side as she is suffering from an illness. Lerch confirmed that everyone else is available.

“Won’t be disappointed if it’s not perfect”

The players were given a day off on Monday, which was well-earned after their efforts in training. “Obviously in the friendly tomorrow we want to see some of things we’ve been working on in training,” said Lerch. “At the same time, you have to bear in mind that the players are certainly a little tired. We’ve had a lot of intensive sessions, so I won’t be disappointed if it’s not perfect tomorrow. I just want to see the girls trying to stake their claim and play dominant football,” added Lerch, who has mostly been leading two sessions per day in Portugal.
