The coaches’ reactions after the Wolves were knocked out of the DFB Cup.
The coaches agreed in their analysis after the match that RB Leipzig were worthy 2-0 winners of what was an exciting cup tie. Oliver Glasner, however, was annoyed with the chances that went begging in the first half.
Oliver Glasner: “We struggled to get our shape early on but we managed to sort that out very well afterwards. It was an even contest up until half-time and we obviously could have taken the lead, with the penalty and with Renato Steffen’s chance. “After the interval, RB had the much better opportunities and we couldn’t manage to impose ourselves on the game anymore. We got caught well and truly on the break, which was the turning point of the match. The lads deserve some praise, however. They gave it their all and put up a great fight. It was a good old-fashioned cup battle and RB Leipzig were full value for their win.”
Julian Nagelsmann: “I agree with all that 100 per cent. Koen Casteels pulled off a world-class save from the opening chance. After that, the game followed a similar pattern to the league match in Wolfsburg. VfL got stronger, particularly in the duels and had two really big opportunities, so it could easily have been 2-2 at the break. “In the second half, we did what we had to do very well and took the lead after putting a good move together. Wolfsburg had a lot of attacking potential on the pitch, so it was important that we got the second goal to relieve the pressure. We were solid in defence and we’re pleased now that we’re in the semi-finals.”
