The coaches’ thoughts following the home win over Union Berlin.
After the 3-0 success on Saturday afternoon, Union Berlin remain the only currently Bundesliga team who VfL have never lost to in the top flight. In the sixth competitive meeting between the two sides, the Wolves got the better of Union again with a focused performance, collecting another important three points in the battle for Champions League qualification. The man of the match was Josip Brekalo, who scored all three goals.
Oliver Glasner: “I’m very happy today. The team produced a great performance from the first minute to the last. We had good control of the game, kept the ball well and our positional play was really good. There were a lot of good moments in there. Overall, we had a good balance in our play because we obviously knew that Union are strong on the counter, but again we were rock-solid and always had good cover.”
Urs Fischer: “It’s a deserved defeat. We had a very poor first half, where we didn’t win many challenges and gave the ball away cheaply far too many times. That made it feel very frantic. We were better in the second half, but over the 90 minutes it just wasn’t enough today. If we don’t play to our limit then it’s going to be hard to pick up points. We didn’t do that today, so we’ll draw the lessons from this game.”
