“Get back to winning ways”

Wolves aiming to get back on track at home to Schalke.

Knocked out of the DFB Cup and a setback in the battle for Europe – two defeats in a row is a new experience for the Wolves this season. Immediately reversing that trend is the main task for the Green-and-Whites in their home match against FC Schalke 04 on Saturday 13 March (kick-off 15:30 CET). Ahead of the meeting with the Royal Blues, an optimistic Oliver Glasner spoke about…

…the past week: “We didn’t defend as well or as resolutely at Hoffenheim as we can and want to. We were also too pedestrian in the final third sometimes and lacked the purposefulness we’ve had recently. We’ve integrated all of that into our training work. The players have really worked hard at it and been fully focused on the task at hand, so I have full confidence that we’ll be completely ‘switched on’ again on Saturday.”

…team news: “If all goes well, Renato Steffen will be available for the end of the season. He’ll be out for at least another few weeks, though. Jerome Roussillon could be in the squad if he’s coped well with today’s training session, but it’s too soon for a starting place. Everyone else who isn’t suspended is fit and able to play.”

…Schalke’s situation: “It’s hard for me to judge from the outside why things haven’t gone to plan for Schalke for such a long time. However, they showed in the recent cup game against us that they have players with good individual quality. I’m expecting a team who will play with a lot of passion. It certainly won’t be a walk in the park, we’re aware of that.”

…the plan for the match: “Of course, when the opposing team aren’t brimming with confidence, we always try not to give them the opportunity to gain any. We want to impose our game at home and put Schalke under pressure. We’ll need good ideas and incision in attack. After an unnecessary defeat against Hoffenheim, we want to get back to winning ways. We’re going to give everything to make that happen.”
