The Wolves’ fixture list remains jam-packed. After getting their DFB Cup, UEFA Europa League qualifying and Bundesliga campaigns under way, on Thursday 24 September they will find themselves back on international duty once again. Oliver Glasner’s men will be facing Ukrainian side FC Desna Chernihiv in a Europa League qualifier at the AOK Stadion (kick-off: 20.15 CEST). Ahead of the match, the VfL head coach spoke to the media about…

… preparing for the opposition: “We’ve managed to get hold of more video material on Desna than we did for Kukesi in the last round – they’ve already played three domestic league matches. We’re well prepared and have got to know our opponents.”

… Desna: “They’re a well-organised team who don’t tend to let in a lot of goals. They defend well, make things tight for the opposition and are a very physical side. Up front they have a big centre-forward whom they try to feed with pacey attacks from the wings. We know what to expect. We’ll need to break through their defence and create space, while making sure that we’re alert to any counter-attacks they try to launch.”

… the squad: “Other than long-term absentees Marin Pongracic, Kevin Mbabu and William, everyone’s fit and they were all at training today and all on good form. It’s great that I can choose from virtually a full squad at the moment. When it comes to choosing the starting XI, I’ll pick the ones who look the freshest and who are the most likely to go out and get us the win.”

… the spot on the right side of defence: “Renato Steffen, Felix Klaus or one of the two left-sided full-backs Jerome Roussillon and Paulo Otavio are the options we have. I’ve also tried out Omar Marmoush at that position in training once. Those are the options we have at the moment. It’s really good that we have these possibilities, even though our two first-choice right-backs are out.”
