First vs. second in Munich

VfL Women travel to FC Bayern Munich in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga on Saturday.

November has proved a memorable month for VfL Wolfsburg Women so far – and it looks set to continue in a similar vein this Saturday (kick-off 14:00 CET), when the second-placed She-Wolves travel to top-of-the-table FC Bayern Munich in the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga. Ahead of the meeting between two heavyweights of the German women’s game, VfL head coach Tommy Stroot spoke about…

…personnel: “Everyone who was fit last time out will also be available on Saturday. Lynn Wilms is making good progress but won’t be fit in time for Munich. Alex Popp has trained on her own with the ball for the first time – she might be able to return to team training in December.”

…the league table: “I’m not at all surprised that things are so tight at the moment. Clubs like Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer 04 Leverkusen are going from strength to strength, so the games between teams in the top half of the table are getting more interesting. That’s what makes the league so appealing.”

…which team are favourites: “I hate to say it, but Bayern are favourites. They like to assume the role of underdogs – like they did in Lyon last time out – but they’re one step ahead of us. That said, we want to give our all, play with courage, set the tone and do everything we can to get a positive result.”
